Hope your 2013 is off to a great start. This is the second year of the Private Equity Program newsletter and we hope it has inspired you to consider ways to engage with the Program. In an effort to keep our private equity alumni community connected, future editions of the newsletter will include an alumni news section. Deal Camp 2012On December 7-9, 2012, the Program held its 2nd Annual Deal Camp. Members of the Columbia Business School community, including MBA and EMBA students, alumni and private equity professionals spent the weekend in this intimate and high-intensity learning environment overlooking the ocean at Gurney’s Inn in Montauk.
After a reception hosted by the Dean's Office on Friday night, Alisa Wood `08 gave a talk on her road to KKR. On Saturday Jason Kelly, Private Equity Reporter at Bloomberg who recently published his new book "The New Tycoons: Inside the Trillion Dollar Private Equity Industry that Owns Everything" was joined by Donna M. Hitscherich `90 and Gary Appel `77 for a dinner discussion on private equity.

Deal Camp Kick-off Reception and Case Competition
The Dollar General case assignment was developed by KKR. Finals will be held on February 8, 2013 on campus and the winning team is looking forward to a lunch with Henry Kravis `69.

Alston & Bird/ Columbia Business School Private Equity Program Series - November 27, 2012On November 27 the Program hosted a lively discussion on the current and future state of private equity - Where We've Been and Where We're Going: A Private Equity Retrospective and Look Ahead on November 27, 2012.
The panel discussion was moderated by Professor Donna M. Hitscherich `90, Director of the Columbia Business School Private Equity Program with panelists David DeLeeuw `69, Chairman, Lion Cao Asset Management, Matthew Mamak, Partner, Alston & Bird LLP and James H. Sullivan, Jr., Partner, Alston & Bird LLP Corporate Transactions and Securities Group.
Business and Law Students Unite for Restructuring Competition
On October 3, 2012 Columbia Law and Business Students gathered for a lesson in Restructuring from Michael Livanos `08 and a presentation on the upcoming Restructuring Competition by Sam Cerone `13 and Brian Louko `14.
